Regional training of open data platform for East African Community statistic offices
An open data portal is a powerful tool for organizing, storing, and presenting data in reusable formats, allowing data to be easily and quickly shared across regional countries, organizations and agencies. With an open data portal, better decisions are made based on evidence, and the tool makes it easier to analyze national, subnational, and regional data for monitoring and evaluation of East African Community ( EAC ) initiatives towards regional integration and development.
Since open data portals are managed by countries, EAC through its department of Statistics collaborates with the NISR training center and data science campus to build the capacity of focal points from national statistical offices to effectively manage the portals and submit required national data to the secretariat according to an agreed format, periodicity, and timeliness. Therefore, the objective of this training is to have ODP focal points who are endowed with skills and ability to update the portal in an effective and timely manner, and on other hand, discuss strategies that advocate for the use of ODP among users in their countries and replicate user part of this training to the maximum of audience in their respective countries.
